Last week we had to bid farewell to Kate, our wonderful spring quarter intern. The end of this internship will be quickly followed by the end of college for this Cal Poly journalism senior, but she’s already got big plans. After her graduation this weekend, she’ll be moving to LA to intern with NBC Universal. We’ll definitely miss her, but how could we not be excited about that?
Here’s what Kate has to say about her internship experience at Verdin:
It’s been 10 weeks already?!
I have had such an incredible experience interning here and have learned so much this quarter. I have always been a huge advocate of the idea that you can learn all you want in the classroom, but until you apply it in real life you won’t truly and fully understand it. At Verdin, I did just that. I was able to apply everything I’ve learned in my classes so far when it came to writing ability, media relationships and professional conduct with clients and in the workplace. Not only was I able to apply those skills, but I was able to learn and understand the importance of those skills in PR and marketing as a whole. Verdin created an inspiring atmosphere where I was able to learn things that I didn’t know as well. Everyone who works at Verdin is so passionate about what they do and it’s very apparent that everyone here cares so much about the success of the people they work with, especially their interns. Verdin is a team of incredibly talented individuals who all work together towards the same goals and I am extremely grateful to have gotten the opportunity to be a part of this team over the last 10 weeks.
From the very first day I came into the office to interview for the position to my last day as an intern, I can honestly and without a doubt say that my skills and knowledge of this field have improved greatly and I don’t think I could have had a better learning experience anywhere else. I was able to explore and really dig down deep into my creativity and had the freedom to express that creativity.
My favorite part about working here, though, was the Verdin team. Working with everyone here was a blast and I learned something from each and every person. On days when writer’s block prevailed and I couldn’t even put sentences together, some very helpful coworkers always came to the rescue with their own writer’s block remedies. Any questions I had would be answered with a smile. Every assignment I completed was followed by positive and constructive feedback.
This was a truly incredible experience that I will take with me into my future. Thank you, Verdin!
