The town of Atascadero offers many opportunities. Build in that “down time” before your calendar reaches capacity!
Atascadero is a friendly town on California’s Central Coast where family time really happens. Strolling through its historic streets will have you feeling like you’ve traveled back in time. Here are a few ways you can enjoy summer in a small town this year:
Take a spin.
The beautiful Atascadero Lake is located right in the middle of town. Here, families can take a stroll, play at the park or visit the Charles Paddock Zoo. In the heat of summer, water sports are also offered on the lake! Take your family or friends out paddle boating or kayaking. If you don’t have a board or kayak, there is a rental station located on the playground side of the park that you can visit.
Try a new recipe.
Summertime in Atascadero means delicious weekly experiences.
“Summer Sizzle” will run from June 20-August 8 at the Farmer’s Market in the Sunken Gardens. A different local chef will be featured each week and will give away a signature recipe and samples. There are wine and beer samples for the adults, a bounce house for the kids, and live music for all members of the family to enjoy.
“Tuesdays in the Park” is a weekly community barbecue that takes place from June 19-August 28 at the Atascadero Lake Park. Support a different local cause each week and enjoy delicious tri tip and chicken BBQ dinner with all the works. Then sit back and enjoy the Atascadero Community Band from 7-8 pm.
If you enjoy wine, you’re invited to participate in Atascadero’s Lakeside Wine Festival from June 22-24. The weekend will be full of delicious food, wine pairings, and even a golf tournament at Chalk Mountain Golf Course. Tickets for this event go quickly, so don’t forget to buy yours before it is too late!
Dance at the community bandstand.
Enjoy a summery Saturday evening listening to live music at the Atascadero Lake Park. Every week, a different band will play and locals and visitors are invited to relax and enjoy! All concerts in the park are free and open to the whole family.
Here’s to a summertime where the living is easy and – for a few moments – where the time slows down.
