Spandex shorts. Sweaty brows. Scenic coastline. 137 miles. Do you know what we’re talking about?
For those unfamiliar with the world of cycling, that would be the Amgen Tour of California, which recently sped through San Luis Obispo County and started Stage 4 of the race at Morro Rock in Morro Bay.
Verdin worked closely with the Morro Bay Tourism Bureau and Visit San Luis Obispo County to generate excitement about the city being selected for the first time as a host city for the Amgen Tour of California. The Tour of California is an annual Tour de France-style bicycle race that features the world’s top cycling teams along hundreds of miles of beautiful California terrain. This year’s tour includes eight south-to-north stages, starting in San Diego and finishing in Sacramento. (CLICK HERE to see the full race schedule.) The most recent was Stage 4, in which riders took off from Morro Bay on May 18 and cycled all the way up Highway 1 to Laguna Seca Raceway in one day. We’ll save you the time of looking it up: that’s 137 winding, hilly miles people… on a bike!
Along with being a world-renowned athletic event, yesterday the Amgen Tour of California offered spectators and participants the opportunity to experience Morro Bay. With the spectacular Morro Rock, miles of gorgeous beach and delicious and sustainable seafood, everyone was able to appreciate the beauty of this Central Coast seaside town. The starting event brought thousands of people to Morro Bay.
